Born in Dublin, Ireland in the winters of 1972, Phil now resides in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Laak had an inborn talent for playing poker and was quick to pick up the intricacies of the game at an early age.
His first major title has to be the World Poker Tour Title Celebrity Invitational in 2004. Since then he has made two more final table finishes. Laak finished at the sixth position in the season 2 of the Battle of Champions Poker tournament and 2005 Five Diamond World Poker Classic tournament too.
Take a look at his other significant achievements in his poker career, which include finishing second to Johnny Chan at 2005 World Series of Poker tournament with a pot limit of $2500. Apart from this, Phil Laak won the NBC’s prestigious Poker After Dark, a weekly TV game show, where he defeated Phil Hellmuth to pocket $120,000. He boasts about beating Polaris, a poker playing computer software designed by University of Alberta, which was the best poker-playing robot in the world in 2007.
Phil Laak has earned ‘Unabomber’ as nickname as he often wears a hooded sweatshirt, with hood up and glasses on the poker table. He is yet to win a winning bracelet at the World Series of Poker. Laak’s total earnings from professional poker stand at $1,750,000 in 2008. His total final table finishes are 5 that include 3 first place finishes too.
