Poker Player Profile – T.J.Cloutier

Thomas James Cloutier is easily one of the most veteran professional poker players in the world. Born in October 1939, Cloutier has donned many facets through his life. He has always had a bent towards sports from the very beginning of his life where he played basketball and baseball in school days. He also competed in the 1959 edition of Rose Bowl. One of his early achievements was that he got drafted into the army but later left it to play professional football for Montreal Allouettes and Toronto Agronauts in the Canadian Football League.

Once his football career ended due to an injury, TJ started a food company but the venture was not fruitful. Cloutier had to move to Texas, where he started doing a regular job and played poker on holidays. It was here that he realized that playing Poker earned him more money than he was making in his job.

Talking about TJ’s poker career, he is a phenomenal tournament player. He has 6 World Series of Poker Bracelets to his credit and 55 cash finishes, which puts him on the 5th rank in the all time high list. Cloutier stood 2nd twice, in 1985 and 2000 in World Series of Poker.

Thomas also plays in the World Poker Tour tournament, where he has had two final table finishes and 9 times money finishes. The total live tournament cash winning of the Cloutier stand at $9,700,000 until 2009.

Apart from playing poker, TJ Cloutier has written several books on poker and its strategies, which are bestseller among the poker enthusiasts. His favorite poker games are No-Limit as well as the Pot Limit Hold’em. He also holds the record of being the only professional poker player to have won all the three different types of Omaha played at the World Series of Poker. No more evidence required to say that he is one of the most respected poker players in the world.
