Chip Jett is a very successful, professional poker player. A member of Full Tilt Poker, he has amassed nearly $2 million in tournament winnings over his lifetime. Today, he is one of the more intimidating poker players on the circuit, largely because of his aggressive play and fearless nature.

Jett’s story is a bit unique. He first got involved in poker as a dealer. He worked in a casino as a poker dealer in Scottsdale, Arizona. During that stint, he learned key strategies from top-level poker players that he dealt to in the casino. He began to use that knowledge himself. When not working the poker tables as a dealer, he was doing so as a customer. He would soon become an avid and fairly successful player.

Chip would quickly improve, making a name for himself as a tough, local, tournament player. Wanting a bit more shine, he decided to play in bigger markets. His first stop was at the Las Angeles Poker Classic in 2001. He performed brilliantly, making it to five finals tables. These tables included games of HORSE, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud, No Limit Hold’em and Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo. He would continue to perform quite well the next couple of years at this event.

In 2003, Chip would hit pay dirt, winning $176,000 in the 2003 Poker Millions Cruise. The player he would lose to was no other then Howard Lederer. That year, Jett was extremely prolific and successful, making it to nearly 20 final tables at respectable tournaments, including a couple at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament.

Today, Chip Jett is one of the busiest players in poker. He plays roughly 300 tournaments and games a year and also online at Full Tilt Poker, making for a grueling playing schedule. Well, at least he gets ton of support (and tips when he needs them), from his wife who is also a professional poker player at Full Tilt.

Knowing the players at the poker table can provide you with several advantages. Having a pretty good understanding of their tendencies, strengths and weaknesses can be very helpful in devising a strategy against them. However, likewise is true. If they are familiar with your game, it can be easier for them to play you in such a way that your weaknesses are exposed.

As mentioned above, knowing the players at the poker table can offer you some what of an advantage. However, this is only true if you are able to exploit it. For example, if you were assigned to guard Lebron James and warned by your coach that he likes to go right, unless you are able to stop them, this information really doesn’t matter. It won’t help, unless you can do something about it. The point is, even if you know a player’s strengths, if you are not good enough to neutralize them, it won’t matter. However, hopefully someone at the table is.

Knowing a player’s weaknesses can be helpful as well, again, as long as you are able to take advantage of them. If you do not know how, spend some time at poker forums and ask other poker players, questions. Individuals that hang out at these websites love to talk poker strategy and are often more then willing to help. Pick their brains a bit and see what you can learn. You can also plug in questions in your favorite search engine and see what pops up.

Knowing the players at the poker table may also help you better identify their tells. Over time, many of the physical tells become obvious. Don’t let on that you know what these are, just take advantage of them.

Being familiar with the people you are playing with, can offer great advantages. It can also provide your opponents with some advantages as well. There will be some give and take in this regard, with the person with superior skills likely winning out. To give yourself the best chance possible, devise game plans to exploit their weaknesses and limit their strengths.

Learning to read your opponents is an invaluable poker skill. Individuals who able to master doing so, will often times have more success then those who have trouble in this area. Reading your opponents is a bit of a misnomer, it involves more then simply deciphering their body language, though it does involve some of this. As important as physical tells and tendencies are, being able to read the cards and the board, is equally so. Below, are some helpful tips for individuals who want to learn how to read their opponents more effectively. It is a bit of a science and will take some time, effort and experience. However, it can eventually and fairly accurately be done.

The first thing that you must learn to do is read the board. Being able to do so will help you to figure out what type of hand your opponents’ might have. If a person is able to figure which cards are available, they can make an educated guess about what hands the other people at the table may potentially be holding.

Watching a player’s actions is also extremely important. How they bet during each round will tell a lot about the cards in their hand. You will need to consider those calls in light of what community cards are showing and attempt to figure out what cards they may thus, have. This will sometimes require that you work backwards. Consider the calls they have made in the past and what subsequent actions they took. This information can be quite helpful in figuring out their hand.

Other considerations to make include where they are seated at the table (position), the number of hands they have played, their cards at the showdown, whether or not they called or raised pre-flop and if they bluffed. This is a pretty long list and with good reason. Each of these things can help paint a picture in regard to what type of cards a player may possess and also what type of player they are.

London, England is one of the most famous cities in the world. It is a great vacation destination with many sites to see and things to do. Individuals that plan on visiting London and are interested in playing poker while in the city will find that there are lots of options. Natives of London are likely already aware of many of them. Poker games are available in card rooms, and pubs. Home games are also pretty popular.

Notable card rooms in the city include, Equal Chance, Casino At The Empire, Gala Casino at Russell Square, Loose Canon Club, The International Victoria casino, River Card Club, The Big Slick Club, Mint Casino, The Royal Surrey and Chiswick Poker Club. It is important to note that some poker clubs are private and thus will not let just anyone it.

Playing pokers at pubs is another option. The atmosphere is generally more relaxed then at a card room. Individuals can play in sit n’ go games or participate in tournaments. There are numerous pubs that offer poker. Some of which include Railway, 5B Urban Bar, Steel and Star Urban Bar, Riley’s, Firefly Bar and the Perseverance. Each of these hosts poker games with buy-ins as low as £5. They offer No Limit Hold’em and Freeze Out games.

The last option for poker players is to participate in home games. These games or tournaments will be played at different people’s homes. There are web sites, which list upcoming home games with all of the relevant details. Individuals can find out where these games are being played and are able to sign up for them. It is important to note, that while this is an available option it does pose a certain amount of risk. Going into someone’s home that one does not know really know can potentially be dangerous. There are so many card rooms and pubs which host’s poker games, that unless a person has a thing for home poker games, they really don’t ever have to consider this option.

Proper bankroll management is extremely important for poker players. If individuals burn through their bankroll too fast, they will be forced to stop playing before they are ready. The goal of most poker players is to participate in as many games as they can afford. When people make poor bankroll management decisions, they decrease the amount of time and games they are able to participate in, which makes it difficult to win money. Fortunately, learning how to manage ones bankroll or control their spending when betting, is not incredibly difficult. However, it does take an enormous amount of self discipline. Individuals without it will find it difficult to avoid spending all of their money even when they have a proven bankroll management system in place.

In poker, there is a lot of variance. Individuals may experience a string of good fortune for awhile and then suddenly have a series of bad runs. Being careful about how much money is spent during each game will help individuals withstand those bad runs. If a person bets the majority of their money on a single game or a few games, chances are they won’t be playing for very long.

There are a few approaches to managing ones bankroll. They will often times be dependent upon the particular type of game being played. For example, in no limit and pot limit cash games, it is often recommended that individuals have a bankroll equivalent to 20 times the full buy-in. For example, a person should have at least $2000 if they will be participating in $1/$2 game with a maximum buy-in of $100. Another option is to only play 5% of ones bankroll at any given time.

Individuals that opt to play Limit Hold’em will want to have a bankroll equivalent to 300 big bets. For example, individuals playing at a $2/$4 Limit Hold’em game may find that a bankroll of $1200 is adequate. In tournament games, having a bankroll equivalent to 40 buy-ins is a good figure. Here is an example, individuals that opt to play at $5=$1 Sit n’ Go’s will need to have a bankroll of $240.

Learning to manage the amount of money a player spends during poker games and tournaments is extremely important. The better a person manages their money, the longer they will be able to play and the greater the opportunity they will have to win cash.

Thomas James Cloutier is easily one of the most veteran professional poker players in the world. Born in October 1939, Cloutier has donned many facets through his life. He has always had a bent towards sports from the very beginning of his life where he played basketball and baseball in school days. He also competed in the 1959 edition of Rose Bowl. One of his early achievements was that he got drafted into the army but later left it to play professional football for Montreal Allouettes and Toronto Agronauts in the Canadian Football League.

Once his football career ended due to an injury, TJ started a food company but the venture was not fruitful. Cloutier had to move to Texas, where he started doing a regular job and played poker on holidays. It was here that he realized that playing Poker earned him more money than he was making in his job.

Talking about TJ’s poker career, he is a phenomenal tournament player. He has 6 World Series of Poker Bracelets to his credit and 55 cash finishes, which puts him on the 5th rank in the all time high list. Cloutier stood 2nd twice, in 1985 and 2000 in World Series of Poker.

Thomas also plays in the World Poker Tour tournament, where he has had two final table finishes and 9 times money finishes. The total live tournament cash winning of the Cloutier stand at $9,700,000 until 2009.

Apart from playing poker, TJ Cloutier has written several books on poker and its strategies, which are bestseller among the poker enthusiasts. His favorite poker games are No-Limit as well as the Pot Limit Hold’em. He also holds the record of being the only professional poker player to have won all the three different types of Omaha played at the World Series of Poker. No more evidence required to say that he is one of the most respected poker players in the world.

Checking “in the dark” is a slang phrase that refers to the player, first to make a wager in the opening round, checking before the community cards are dealt. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. The primary advantage is that a person eliminates any disadvantage they have based on their position. Based on where a player is sitting, they may have less or more of an advantage then the other players. Usually those in the latter positions are better off because they have an opportunity to watch everyone else. There are however disadvantages to checking in the dark. The main one is that a person limits their options if players behind them check. This is an option available to players in land based games but not those played online.

Checking in the dark has become more popular as well known, professional poker players began doing it. The opinions on whether or not this is a good strategy has been mixed. There are some people that feel like checking in the dark decreases the amount of control a player has. In a game where controlling the things that a person can is considered invaluable, giving up control seems like a bad move.

There are some noted advantages of using this strategy. Some people feel like it is a good move because it is show of strength. Others suggest that it puts ones opponents out of position. A player’s opponent can no longer act based on the action of the player in front of them. He or she now has to make the first move. It also allows players not to give away what’s in their hand.

Checking in the dark is becoming more popular. Is it a good idea? That depends largely on the amount of experience the person has who’s doing it. Having a good follow-up strategy will be key in determining whether or not it puts a person in a better position or a worse one.

Tilt in poker occurs when players act in ways they would not normally because they are playing off of emotion, usually negative ones. It is normal for individuals to get upset when playing poker. They may get mad, irritated, frustrated and the like. When a person allows these types of emotions to control their play, sometimes they end up playing themselves into losses. Good players have learned to play with discipline. This not includes not only how they manage their bankroll but their emotions, which will often affect how a person manages their bets (i.e., money).

Tilting is never a good thing. It costs people money, influences them to burn through their bankroll and make rash decisions. To control tilt, individuals should play within certain guidelines. While these won’t totally eliminate the possibility of tilt, it will make it less likely. They include proper bankroll management, sitting out of games when a person has become too emotional and limiting the amount of drinks consumed when playing.

Proper Bankroll Management: When a person has already set clear guidelines regarding how they will manage their bankroll, it is less likely that they will make bets based on emotion. They might. However, if they are disciplined in how they deal with their money, they may better be able to pass on an emotional wager.

Sitting Out Games: While most poker players don’t want to miss any action, sometimes it is necessary when a person has become too emotional or upset. Strong emotions can be a player’s biggest foe. They can influence them to take actions that they wouldn’t normally and thus, cost them money.

Limit Alcohol Intake: Alcohol can have a negative impact on ones poker game. Suddenly, a person is not thinking as clearly and their emotions can very easily get the best of them. Individuals that are drunk don’t necessarily make the best poker players and put themselves at risk of playing with tilt. If a person cannot control their liquor or it causes them to become emotional, they should avoid drinking while playing.
