The world of poker is always associated with luck and cash. It’s great to enjoy the smile of lady luck, but it’s even greater to share your luck with those in need. Why not help others who aspire to help others? Confused? Read on.
There’s this charity called Children for Children, which engages more than 100,000 young people annually through 25 programs and initiatives that are implemented in 26 U.S. states. Their mission is to mobilize the energy, ingenuity and compassion of young people, beginning at an early age, to discover their power and potential to solve real world problems through volunteer opportunities and service learning programs that instill a lifelong commitment to service. In short: it’s helping children to save others by becoming future leaders in their community.

The organization was founded in 1996, teaching the value of civic engagement and demonstrating that, no matter how young, everyone has something to give. They encourage young people to think about the world beyond their own neighborhoods, address issues with constructive methods and ultimately become agents of positive change in their communities.
The best thing about CFC’s programs is: children can participate while in school, it keeps children off the streets by having them participate after-school, or out of school, within the community, family, even online!
So how charitable is Children For Children? Well, the good folks from CharityNavigator.Org put CFC on #8 at their top 10 Charities Worth Watching and gave CFC a four star charity badge -which stands for its highest charity rating… for two years in a row. And you can also check with the New York Times about the organization’s effectiveness and growth as CFC was also selected as a semi-finalist in the 2008 New York Times Company Excellence Awards for Nonprofit Management.

Now, how do you help CFC for its programs to continually empower youth to recognize their own individual and collective relevance? Easy. Go over to their website at www.childrenforchildren.org and there are ways for everybody to contribute.
OR, you can check out their upcoming activity: CFC’s Fourth Annual Grow Involved for the Holidays Family Fun’raiser. This year, the Family Fun’raiser will gather hundreds of volunteers from across New York to share delicious barbecue and participate in a hands-on service fair which involves decorating stuffed animals to benefit children in the hospital, creating car kits for the local shelters, making holiday cards for our troops abroad, partaking in a hunger awareness campaign and a lot more. The event will take place on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.at Blue Smoke & Jazz Standard, 116 East 27th Street New York, NY. If you’re interested to sponsor the 2009 Grow Involved for the Holidays Family Fun’raiser, you can call 212.850.4160.
So you see why we love to help CFC? Because we think it’s what helping should be like. We help by providing materials to educate those who’ll help others. So instead of focusing on just one cause, we’ll create a bigger impact! So are you ready to do it?
