Darvin entered the 2009 WSOP after winning a $130 satelitte tournament in West Virginia. At a casino, Wheeling Island Casino in Wheeling WV, it took three chances, but Moon finally came away with a title. His trip to Las Vegas was not only the first time out west, but also his first trip on an airplane.

At the final table, Moon came in as the chip leader, but as the underdog against Cada. In the 88th hand of the tournament, Cada eliminated Moon with a pair o 8′s over Moon’s Q/J. The flop came out with an 8 of clubs, 2 of clubs, and 7 of spades. The next card was a king of hearts and the river was the 7 of clubs. Had Moon won that hand, he would have taken the chip lead over Cada.

Darvin is known for his very humble manner. Many times during the tournament, Moon would comment on how inexperienced he was, and talking about how much luck he was receiving. Some dubbed him as Darvin Gump, referring to the old Forrest Gump movie. When asked about a sponsorship deal during the WSOP event, Moon declined citing “he didn’t want to answer to anybody.” Moon is noted be a New Orleans Saints football fan.

Moon intends to use portions of his winnings to aide some relatives through college, and give some to charities within his community, including building new youth ball fields. Moon claims he will not change, and the next time you see him, he will still be wearing blue jeans. Moon, as of November 19th still did not have an official fan site, a rarity of WSOP stars. During one of his many interviews during his WSOP run, Moon said he felt like a “deer in the headlights.” Darvin claims to not own an email address, nor a credit card.

CarbonPoker.com has been hitting up Moon for his sponsorship since the November Nine, but again, Darvin has yet to crack. Once again claiming “there is not enough money in the world for someone to tell me what to do.”. CarbonPoker.com has given five good reasons for Darvin to join, including they are Saints’ fans as well.
