Gregory Raymer, who will turn 46 years old in June, is a professional poker player that was born in Florida, later moving to St. Louis. He now makes his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. His claim to fame in the world of poker is winning the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event. He is also well known for his funky looking opaque holographic sunglasses that he wears while playing.

After graduating from high school in St. Louis, Raymer enrolled at the University of Missouri-Rolla, to major in Chemistry. He then later graduated from University of Minnesota Law School in 1992. Raymer is known by other poker players by the nickname Fossilman, for his collection of fossils as a hobby.

He then went on to win the entire event in 2004 Main Event beating David Williams to win $5 million first prize. In 2005, as the defending champion, Raymer finished 25th in the Main Event. That earned him over 300,000, and he became the first since Johnny Chan to come that close to repeating. As of early 2010, Raymer has earned nearly $7 million from live tournaments.
Raymer has future intentions of entering politics, and even had aspirations of running for the Vice President of the United States in 2008. When not playing poker, Gregory can be found at the local golf course often, or if weather is not cooperating, he also enjoys Sudoku puzzles, and playing the Wii. Games such as tennis and bowling on his Wii are his favorite. Raymer is a regular at Team Poker Stars and can be found under the name “fossilMan’.
