Poker Player Profile: Jamie Gold

Jamie Gold, will turn 41 years old in August, and is known as not only one of the most talented poker players in the world, but also one of the most interesting. He is best known for winning the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event. Born in Kansas City, Gold moved to Manhattan early in his life and garnered an early interest in the game of poker, and says his family needs the credit for sparking his interest. Gold graduated from Paramus High School in 1987 and garnered his bachelor’s degree from State University of New York in Albany in 1991. He later studied entertainment law at UCLA.

Gold started his poker playing career in 2005 when he won a Bicycle Casino no limit Texas Hold’em Tournament. He continued to play in small poker tournaments until his climb to fame began in 2006 when he won the WSOP of over $12 million, which made him known as the biggest winner in poker history. Twice he has finished first place, but just once as he garnered the WSOP bracelet. Years ago, Gold signed a contract with online gaming industry BoDog, but he canceled the contract to become the head of buzznation.com.

In 2010, Gold has been involved in two major tournaments. In January, he was knocked out fairly quick, finishing 338th for just $800 at the Los Angeles Poker Classic. More recently, in the start of March, Gold finished 9th place in the $20,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament held in Las Vegas. He walked away with $25,000 for his performance.

Outside of playing poker, Jamie Gold is a Hollywood agent, with actors such as James GandolfiniJ and Felicity Huffman. Gold has been talked about for his “table talk” which is often times frowned upon, especially the money he “flashed” his cards to an opponent at a WSOP event.
