Peter Eastgate is one of the youngest professional poker players in the world. At the age of 24, Eastgate is known around the game by the nicknames Icegate or Isser. Originally from Denmark, Eastgate, in 2008, won the World Series of Poker Main Event, and at the time was the youngest to ever win the event. At the time of Eastgate winning the tournament, he was 22 years old, 10 months and 28 days. The record was once held by Phil Helmuth at the age of 24. In 2009 the record was broken by Joe Cada.
Growing up in a suburb of Odense Denmark, Eastgate started playing poker when he was in High School. He originally went to Aarhus University to study finance, but later elected to drop-out and play poker full-time.
When he first entered the Main Event, he qualified via Ladbrokes poker website. When he arrived at the final table, he was fourth in chip count. He reached the final two, and went heads up against Ivan Demidov. In an event that took 15+ hours, Eastgate won, garnering over $9 million. In 2009, Eastgate was eliminated in 78thplace, in an effort to repeat as Main Event champion. His elimination hand came when his opponent pulled a flush on the river.
In 2007 he finished at the final table of the Irish Poker Open, and won money at the 2008 European Poker Tour event. Eastgate ranks first in Denmark’s all time money list, along with Europeans at the World Series of Poker and Scandanvia All Time Money List. He has the one WSOP bracelet, and is currently 57th in 2010 on the money list. Overall, his total winnings from live poker events have amassed $10 million.
