I love dogs; we even have a bullboxer in our family. Yet I can assure you when I sit down at the same custom poker table as “the Great Dane” Gus Hansen, everybody is on a short leash. He is no dog, but Gus Hansen plays poker in a way that can be described as carnivorous. He’s deadly decisive, loaded with experience, and one poker professional we can look to for advice, advanced poker training, and a true competitive edge.
Gus Hansen was born in 1974 just outside of Copenhagen Denmark and like many other poker stars he did not grow up playing poker. Hansen was introduced to backgammon at an early age and honed his skills further upon moving to New York playing in various local clubs.
Now Hansen, a multi-millionaire, multi-world series of poker braclet winner, and multi-home owner (residing in Denmark, Monaco and Las Vegas) also has a spot online at Gus Hansen Poker. Here you can find poker tips, poker news, Hansen’s poker blog, and even what music Hansen listens to when sitting at his custom poker table.
Here is a snip-it from his blog, and as you can see Gus writes in a way that includes the audience in his hands so we can learn from his successes and more importantly his mistakes.
“The second big hand of the day came when I was getting ready to go on dinner break (which by the way should have been cancelled or postponed as we only ended up playing ¾ of a level after dinner). Monster hand no. 2:
I raise, a villain at the poker table comes over the top and I call with:

He bets and I consider my actions for a long time before calling. I am obviously eyeing his stack and I hope he is holding something like AK or AQ. Turn:

He checks and I fire 200,000 into the pot hoping to induce a reaction from my opponent. He moves all-in for an additional 200,000 and I call. He shows:

Suddenly I am up to 1.35 million!”
This is the kind of action poker blog we have all been waiting for. We’ve got Gus talking about his hands, discussing his thought process, and analyzing the betting and displaying skills for raking down a big pot. Gus Hansen has a bankroll, and is constantly working it playing poker online, in casinos, and in poker tournaments… blogging all the way to the bank.
